Newmachar and The Carrick
Hi everyone,
I just thought I would write a quick update on my recent events. I played a pro-am at Newmachar Golf Club near Aberdeen on Friday the 4th of July, it was a blustery day which for once felt strange with the good weather we have been having. I am in the process of making a few little changes to my swing and they are proving a bit difficult to get used to. I had a two over par 74 at Newmachar which finished me in tied 10th place, I just hadn’t quite hit as many fairways and greens as I am used to, but there were lots of positives out of the day in that my putting was very good and it was a good fun day. The course was fantastic and i’m fortunate that my amateur team of Alasdair Macgregor, my mum and my dad played some good golf in there for the team to finish 5th.
This week just passed I have played the Europro tour at The Carrick at Loch Lomond. The course was a fantastic setting and in great condition despite playing very very tough. I played the pro-am on Tuesday with a team from Simpson & Marwick consisting of Richard Loudon, Mike Wood and Shaun George. We had a good day despite some of the dodgy golf everyone managed to have a few spells of brilliance thrown in, I ended up shooting a 76.
The tournament started on the Wednesday and I didn’t tee off until 3pm and got finished at 8:30 (a very long round). I struggled committing to some shots with the changes I am making both days so I am going to be practicing very hard until next weeks event at Royal Burgess. I had scores of 79 and 81 which was very disappointing but by no means the worst in the field. The course was playing extremely tough and if you missed fairways you were really just saying good bye to your golf ball.
To finish on a positive note my chipping and putting was very good all week and once I get my long game back to its best I am confident the results will take care of themselves.
