Astbury Hall
Hi everyone,
I have played a couple of events since my last blog post so I thought that I would write a piece covering these events plus my upcoming schedule.
On the 11th to 13th of June I played in the Europro Tour as Astbury Hall, which is in Bridgnorth near Birmingham. It was a lovely golf course with exceptional greens, and for those you into your music, owned by K.K. Downing the guitarist from Judas Priest. The weather that week was fantastic, with light winds and mid 20 degree temperatures and the course was playing really well. I had worked on my putting very hard before the event and despite the green being grainy I found my putting touch the first round, I had 5 birdies and 3 bogeys for a round of 68 which was my lowest tournament round of the year to date.
The second round was much of the same, I hit it solid and putted well for another 68, this time having 4 birdies and 2 bogeys. The highlight of my round was a 2 on the par 3 12th holes which was playing an extraordinary 249 yards, where I hit my tee shot to 6 feet and holed the putt. I played the par 3 holes very well in general, I have taken advice from Dean Robertson and started hitting it more into the middle of the greens and it has definitely helped me make a lot more pars on the par 3s.
Unfortunately on the final day I didn’t quite play to the same standard, I was 3 over after 11 holes and then started chasing a little and hitting at flags that in hindsight I probably shouldn’t have. I also made a double bogey on the last (par 3) where for once I went straight at the flag, but K.K.Downing had put up a prize of £18000 for a hole in one so I made an excuse for it on this occasion.
I had a lot of positives to take out of the day and am looking forward to my next few events to build on the positives.
