Wychwood Park
Hi everyone,
I am writing this blog in the build up to the Europro event at Longhirst Hall next week after some good practice. I played an 1836 tour event last Tuesday and Wednesday at Wychwood Park near Crewe. It was a very nice golf course with some very challenging holes and almost 7200 yards off the back tees. They didn’t play all the tees back so we played it just under 7000 yards and blustery conditions with some showers blowing through both days.
The first day I played very solid and had a level par round of 72, putting me tied 9th. I had 2 birdies (6 and 12) and 2 bogeys (10 and 13) for halves of 35 and 37. I hit the ball well tee to green but just didn’t really convert many birdie chances.
The second day was windy and the pins were harder than the first. I had the pleasure of playing with a 6 time european tour winner and 2 time Ryder Cup player David Guilford who gave me a lot of good insight and information into the life of a touring professional and what it takes to make it to the very top level, as well as some great stories about playing with Seve Ballasteros and Bernhard Langer in the Ryder Cup. I hit it even better than the first day, and holed some putts. I had 5 birdies (3,6,7,10,18) and 3 bogeys (1,4,9) for halves of 36 and 34 and a 2 under par round of 70. This gave me a 2 round total of 142 (-2) and a very creditable final position of 6th which I was very happy with.
I have lots of positives to take out of the two round event and cannot wait till the next event as I feel my game is really about to start producing some really good results in big events. As I write this I have just got home from Renaissance where I shot my course record score of 64 (7 under par) which was very satisfying.
I play at Longhirst Hall near Morpeth on the 21st to 23rd of May in the Europro tour, you can see live scoring at www.europrotour.com.
