Final Q School
I went down to Frilford Heath for the Europro tour final q school following getting through first stage at Slaley Hall. The field had 240 people with everyone playing 2 rounds and then the top 80 playing the 3rd round. The top 80 got you a full card which guarantees you into every tournament and then positions 81-120 get you category 12 which will guarantee you at least 12 of 16 events but one good event and you will get into all of them.
Frilford Heath was a really nice venue for the event and the weather was good (minus the polluted air) and the courses were good apart from the greens which had been cored so weren’t as good as they would be in the summer. As my putting is the strongest part of my game I feel like this let me down because with the holes on the greens it evens the field out as it is just luck whether or not you hole putts on them.
I hit the ball good during the two rounds but just didn’t hole my share of putts (I had 13 lipouts in 2 rounds), I ended up shooting 73,73. This wasn’t good enough to make the cut by 2 shots, but I was easily inside the top 120 so I managed to get category 12, so I will get into the tournaments that I need to during the season.
I am very positive about the year ahead and looking forward to getting into the full tournament season. I have started changing a few little things with my coach Sandy Smith and believe that they are going to stand me in really good stead for the year.
